Banksia Bush Candles |
Bush Candles is a compact low growing dwarf form of Banksia spinulosa. Beautiful soft fern like foliage and striking visible flower heads appear from late autumn through to early spring. Bush Candles produces multiple bicoloured flowers with black styles that contrast against a golden floral cylindrical shaped flower giving it a candle like appearance. The striking nectar-filled blooms are also bird attracting and provide food for fauna over the winter months. Bush Candles grows to a height of 0.45m and has a spread of 1 – 1.5m making it excellent as a specimen plant in the garden or display pot plant. Bush Candles can be planted on mass to create low borders. This Banksia stays fresh and compact all year round and is excellent for second line coastal areas where height restrictions are required for urban landscapes. Bush Candles grows best in full sun to part shade preferably facing an easterly aspect; and is adaptable to most well drained soils. This small compact shrub requires little or no maintenance once established. Bush Candles flower colour sets it apart from the other selected forms of Banksia spinulosa. Banksia spinulosa forms such as Banksia Birthday Candles, Banksia Cherry Candles, Banksia Coastal Cushion and Banksia Honeypots are excellent to combine to create variation in the landscape. |
